Similar to bad weather hit the north-west the night before, Manchester City overwhelmed United away at the their home ground. It was a convincing 3-0 win for the City coach's side thanks to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a performance that firmly established their championship potential as they strengthened their standing at the league summit.

Consecutive Defeats for United

This scoreline represented successive Women's Super League losses for the United manager's side for the first time since spring 2024, putting them a sizable gap off the top team with their trophy ambitions severely dented.

Manchester United's capability to juggle league and continental football with a small squad has been a hotly discussed topic since they secured entry to the European competition. Reviewing the calendar, it always seemed this was the week that would seriously challenge this fortitude. Regrettably for the visitors, they seemed tired throughout, the landmark win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having left its mark.

Lineup Adjustments

Skinner had tried to freshen things up with a a few alterations. Ella Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Janssen and Galton all brought energy, although the dropping of the in-form Malard to the bench raised a few eyebrows.

Second Half

The primary adjustment came from the United manager at the interval as Melvine Malard was introduced for Terland but by this time it was ineffective to change the course of the match. Ex- City player Jess Park came most likely to score, hitting the post, but the visitors were lacking in ideas and were unable to produce a one shot on goal.

The home side, in contrast, could have increased their lead when a superb Vivianne Miedema pass sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to miss the chance but it was insignificant to the winning team.
