Extremely High Air Quality Readings

Multiple areas of the city showed an AQI over 500, which represents 10x the recommended threshold set by the WHO.

Pyrotechnics Restrictions and New Changes

This crisis in Delhi is caused by a mix of multiple factors including automobile exhaust, dust, development work, waste incineration and pollutants from agricultural fires in nearby regions of Punjab and Haryana.

Within these states, rural residents regularly ignite agricultural waste to prepare for next season, generating toxic pollution that remains stagnant over the city as cooler air descends.

Public health and economic impact on the nearly 33 million people residing in the Delhi area is substantial, according to multiple investigations.

This pollution leads to high levels of neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory conditions, and can result in malignancies.

Environmental contamination is calculated to be responsible for 10,000 early mortalities per year in the city.
